NetBSD 4.0 looks very promising. I need a fileserver with RAID5, and that will be my OS of choice, because:
– FreeBSD has no RAID5 support for GEOM, only an unofficial third-party driver.
– ZFS (RAID-Z) requires 2+ GB of RAM and amd64/em64t is recommended.
– DragonFly has no decent RAID5 support AFAIK.
– I don’t like Linux.
– RAIDframe looks promising.
Oh, and of course decent hardware RAID5 controllers (3ware or Areca) aren’t affordable.
