Matthew Dillon has added powerd, a utility that will automatically step down processor speed based on reported temperature. The range is configurable, and there’s some other nice-to-have features. This will save your CPU from melting, and probably also your thighs from being burned.

how does one use powerd?
put:
powerd_enable=”YES”
In your /etc/rc.conf, and it will run with defaults. If you look at the man page, it’ll tell you what other values you can put in, though the defaults are sensible.

Works great! Much better than running the temperature to 85 and having the clock slam down to half-speed permanently ;-)
